Message from Minister Ibn Ali
Good day, everyone! I'm so grateful for the opportunity to speak with you today. I believe God has brought us together in this moment because someone here needs to hear a truth that will set them free. Let me start by sharing a declaration that's very personal to me, and I believe it will resonate deeply with your heart:
"My past can't hold me, my scars don't define, 'cause in Yeshua (Jesus), this life is mine! A new creation, each day I stand free, leaving the old, living in His victory!"
Let's sit with that for a moment. This isn't just a statement; it's a reminder of the transforming power of God's grace in our lives. It's rooted in a profound promise from scripture, found in 2 Corinthians 5:17, which says:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
Did you catch that? The old has gone. Not hidden, not lingering in the background, not hanging on for dear life—it's gone. And in its place, something entirely new has arrived. I want to explore with you today what that means for us—not just as a theological concept, but as a living, breathing truth that we can walk in daily.
Let's start with this: all of us have a past. Some of us carry wounds from childhood, mistakes from bad decisions, or consequences of paths we wish we hadn't taken. Life, in its brokenness, has a way of leaving scars. And often, we allow those scars to speak louder than the voice of God in our lives. They whisper lies: "You're not good enough. You'll always be defined by what you've done. You'll never break free."
But let me remind you of this: your scars may tell a story, but they don't define your destiny. Your past may have been painful, but it has no power to hold you when you're in Christ. Why? Because in Him, you've been made new. Not patched up. Not slightly improved. But completely, radically, and entirely new.
Let me share a story to illustrate this truth. There was a young woman who had lived through years of brokenness. She struggled with addiction, toxic relationships, and feelings of deep shame. She had scars—both visible and invisible—that constantly reminded her of her mistakes. One day, she walked into a church service, broken and desperate. The pastor spoke on this very scripture, 2 Corinthians 5:17. When she heard the words, "The old has gone, the new is here," something shifted in her spirit. She realized that her identity was not in her mistakes but in Christ. From that day forward, she began walking in her new identity as a child of God. Her circumstances didn't change overnight, but her mindset did. She no longer saw herself as a victim of her past but as a victor in Christ's victory.
Friends, that's the power of being a new creation. It's not about pretending the past didn't happen; it's about knowing it no longer has authority over you. It's about stepping into the freedom Jesus purchased for you on the cross.
But here's the key: walking as a new creation is a daily decision. It's not a one-time revelation; it's a journey of faith. Some days, the enemy will try to drag you back into old patterns, whispering, "You haven't really changed." But that's when you stand firm and declare, "My past can't hold me, my scars don't define me, because in Jesus, this life is mine!"
Think about it: when you came to Christ, He didn't just give you a fresh start; He gave you a new nature. You are no longer defined by your failures, your struggles, or your scars. You are defined by who He says you are: redeemed, loved, chosen, victorious.
So how do we live this out practically? Let me give you three encouragements to walk in the truth of your new identity:
1. Renew Your Mind Daily
Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Every day, we must fill our thoughts with God's truth. When those lies creep in—"You're not good enough," "You'll never change"—combat them with scripture. Declare, "I am a new creation. The old has gone, the new is here." Saturate your mind with His Word, and let His promises shape your perspective.
2. Let Go of the Old
To fully embrace the new, you have to release the old. That may mean letting go of guilt, shame, or bitterness. It may mean forgiving yourself or others. Remember, the chains of your past have already been broken; don't hold onto what Jesus has set you free from. Picture yourself leaving those burdens at the foot of the cross and walking away lighter, freer, and full of joy.
3. Live in His Victory
Jesus didn't just save you; He gave you His victory. That means you don't have to fight your battles alone. Whatever you're facing—whether it's fear, addiction, or insecurity—know that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive in you. You're not fighting for victory; you're fighting from victory.
As I close, I want to leave you with this thought: God didn't create you to live in bondage to your past. He created you to walk in freedom, purpose, and joy. So when the enemy tries to remind you of your scars, remind him of your Savior. When he brings up your past, point him to the cross. And when you feel like giving up, declare with boldness:
"My past can't hold me, my scars don't define, 'cause in Yeshua (Jesus), this life is mine! A new creation, each day I stand free, leaving the old, living in His victory!"
Let's pray together:
Lord, remind us daily that we are a new creation in You. Help us to let go of the chains of our past and walk in the freedom You've given us. Strengthen us to renew our minds, release the old, and live in Your victory. Thank You for making us new. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Now go forward, knowing that you are not who you were—you are who He says you are: free, victorious, and made new!
